RVPO (Temporary Residence Permit for the Purpose of Education) is a temporary residence permit issued to foreign nationals for the purpose of obtaining education in Russia.
It is intended for foreign nationals who study full-time at a state educational or scientific institution under a state-accredited higher education programme or a programme for the training of scientific and academic teaching personnel in postgraduate studies. An RVPO does not automatically apply to students of preparatory faculties or students enrolled in secondary vocational education (SVE) programmes.
The permit is issued for the duration of the study programme plus 180 calendar days. It allows the holder to reside in Russia and work without a work patent or work permit. A transition to part-time or part-time evening study, as well as early termination of studies, may result in the cancellation of the RVPO.
After successfully completing the programme, an RVPO holder may apply for a VNZh (Residence Permit) under a special procedure.
