A Graduate of Belgorod State University, Philologist with a Diploma with Honors

Wang Yan, from China, successfully completed her studies in Philology at Belgorod State University (BelSU), graduating with a Diploma with Honors. Her education in Russia became not only a significant academic achievement but also an opportunity to reassess her aspirations, broaden her horizons and gain a deeper understanding of herself.

Her decision to study in Russia was motivated by a combination of high-quality, comprehensive education, centuries-old cultural traditions, accessible academic programmes and scholarship opportunities for international students, as well as the opportunity to master the Russian language and become part of the country’s academic community.

Wang Yan successfully overcame the initial challenges she faced, including the language barrier, unfamiliar teaching methods and the pressure of oral examinations. She used dictionaries and watched Russian films with subtitles as part of her daily language practice, while actively communicating with fellow students and local residents.

For Wang Yan, Belgorod became a second home. She participated in student theatre productions and Chinese-Russian cultural festivals and became acquainted with Russian traditions, including New Year celebrations. These experiences allowed her to gain a deeper understanding of Russian culture and everyday life.

Wang Yan believes that a Russian degree represents more than academic achievement. It is also evidence of the ability to think critically, overcome challenges and communicate effectively with people from different cultural backgrounds.

She advises prospective international students to practise Russian actively, take part in academic, volunteer and creative projects, and travel throughout Russia in order to gain a deeper understanding of the country’s culture and opportunities.

Wang Yan’s story demonstrates that education in Russia opens the door to knowledge, personal growth and international experience, transforming student life into a meaningful and inspiring stage of personal and professional development.
