From Medical Student to an Internationally Recognized Doctor!
Today, in our series, we present the story of Taleb Basel Samir Salem Ahmed, a young doctor from Egypt who chose Russia as the place to pursue his dream — and made the right choice. His journey from a first-year medical student to a graduate with a Diploma with Honors is a story of perseverance, adaptation and professional growth in an international environment.
He chose to study in Russia because medical education here is regarded as both high-quality and accessible.
“My expectations were not simply met — I received even more than I had expected,” says Taleb Basel.
Among the most memorable aspects of his studies, he highlights his professors, who combined professional expertise with genuine humanity and care.
He also remembers the friendly local residents who helped him overcome the language barrier, as well as university events that gave him the opportunity to discover Russian traditions and become more immersed in the local culture.
Today, the graduate is preparing to begin his professional career at a Russian medical institution and remains open to cooperation with universities and research centres.
“The knowledge and experience I gained in Russia provide a solid foundation for my professional career. Here, I was taught not simply how to treat patients, but how to think like a doctor.”
How can international students overcome the language barrier?
Taleb Basel made a conscious effort to practise Russian every day. He communicated with fellow students, attended language courses and watched Russian films with subtitles — practices that significantly helped him improve his language skills.
His advice to future international students:
Be open to a new culture;
Learn Russian actively and do not be afraid to ask questions;
Take an active part in university life.
These steps can help not only with academic studies but also with future professional development.
Today, Taleb Basel dreams of returning to Russia one day as an experienced physician or as a participant in international medical conferences.
